Competition Rules

Determined by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations rules for F.Y.2022 and the rules set forth for this competition.

Course

The course will be certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations.
Takaoka City Hall - Takaoka Buddha - Yamachosuji - Shin-Takaoka Station - Kaiwomaru Park - Shinminato Bridge (alternate course in the event of inclement weather) - Toyama Kita Bridge - Fugan Canal Kansui Park.

In the case of inclement weather, the Shinminato Bridge may be unusable. In this case, an alternate route will be chosen.

Participation Rules

Anyone born on or before April 1, 2004.
*Participation is limited to those residing in Japan.
*Participants who have disabilities and may find it difficult to run alone can be accompanied one (free of charge) assistant runner. (Service dogs are not allowed. Please present your physical disability certificate or treatment notebook at registration.)
*Participation by wheelchair is not possible.

Starting Alignment

Starting alignment blocks will be set up based on reported times from runners' applications. However, those with times within 3 hours, 29 minutes, and 59 seconds must submit a certificate recording it.

Please submit (a copy of) a record with your time from a full marathon held in Japan or internationally on or after October 1, 2019.

Recording and Measurement

Measuring chips will be used to record at the following points (11 points total): Start / 5km / 10km / 15km / 20km / Halfway Point / 25km / 30km / 35km / 40km / Finish

In Case of Emergency

If an accident or some manner of disaster occurs during the race, emergency vehicles may have to enter the course. If that is the case, please follow instructions from the staff and stop running if required.

Hand Luggage

Runners' hand luggage will be transported from the starting line to the finish line by the event organizers. Please place any luggage in designated bags before the marathon begins.
Large items that cannot fit into the designated bags (ie, large umbrellas) will be charged a 1,000 yen transport fee.
Depending on road conditions, hand luggage may arrive late.

Awards

1) 1st through 8th place finishers for both men and women will receive awards.
2) The top 3 finishers in each age group and gender will be recognized(excluding those who finished in the top 8 overall)
*Ages are categorized by one's age on November 6th, 2022.
*Awards will be sent at a later date.

Other

-Please train properly for the event, receive a physical, and only compete if you are healthy enough to do so.

-The organizers are not responsible for lateness due to public transport or road conditions.

-Costumes that make others uncomfortable are forbidden.

-Do not wear/attach to your body anything for advertising purposes, including company names, product names, designs or trademarks.

-In some cases, the organizers will allow the consignment sale of photographs.

-Runners with the following records are not allowed to compete in shoes with soles thicker than 40 mm, in accordance with Article 143 (TR5) of the Rules of Competition in Road Racing. In addition, runners who have achieved the following or higher records in the race will have their shoe sole thickness checked after the race. (Men: 2:21:00 Women: 2:56:00)

-Runners will be denied competition in the marathon if they conduct themselves in an offensive manner during registration or on the day of the marathon, such as illegal parking, taking pictures in the changing rooms, changing clothes outside of the designated changing area, defecating outside of the restrooms, entering the starting block by climbing over restricted fences, crossing roads, etc.

-Apart from the above terms, runners must follow instructions from the organizers regarding matters involved with the marathon.

Handling of Personal Data

-The organizers understand the importance of personal data and will observe all laws and regulations regarding the safe handling of such data.

-Personal data will be used for the following purposes: participation guidance, record notification, and notification of relevant information. Announcement of rankings is provided by the sponsors, co-sponsors, and related organizations.

-In addition to competition management purposes, personal information, including physical condition check sheets, will be taken as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please be advised that this personal information may be submitted in an appropriate manner only when requested by administrative agencies.

Application Terms and Conditions

-In the event of the marathon's cancellation due to weather conditions, natural disasters, and other events beyond the organizer's control, the participation and handling fees may or may not be refunded after deducting expenses incurred up to the time of cancellation. (This will also apply to cancellations due to COVID-19.)

-Receipts will not be issued for participation and handling fees.

-First aid treatment will be provided by the organizers only in the case of illness, loss, or other accidents.

-Compensation for accidents, injuries, and illnesses during the event will be covered by the organizer-purchased insurance policy, except in cases of willful misconduct or gross negligence on the part of the organizers.
*COVID-19 infections will not be covered.

-Cancelling after registration is not allowed.

-Participating anonymously/under a fake name, false declarations of age or gender, or entering as someone else (fraudulent entries) is not permitted.

-The organizers retain the right to publish images, photographs, articles, records, applicants' names, ages, addresses (nationality, name of prefecture or city), etc. on TV, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, etc., and portrait rights during the marathon. (The ranking, name, hometown, and record of marathon finishers will be published in the Kitanippon Shimbun newspaper and on the web newspaper webun the day after the race).

-The marathon will be held in compliance with all relevant domestic laws.

-Organizers will hold the marathon in accordance with these terms and conditions, as well as the marathon rules.

-Minors must enter with the permission of their parents/guardians.

Application Notes

-The Toyama Marathon 2022 is organizing another race in parallel with the full marathon, but this application system is only for the full marathon.

-Multiple entries by the same person will be rendered invalid. Please be careful.

-After submitting the application, it is not possible to alter, correct, or cancel it.

-Entering false age or gender information is not allowed. Application on behalf of a 3rd party is not allowed.

-The organizers are not responsible for late entries caused by problems with equipment or Internet speed.

-With some handsets and browsers, it may not be possible to apply using the Internet.

*Registration will not take place on the day of the marathon (November 6th).
*IDs will be checked during registration to verify the registrant's identity (registering for someone else is not permitted).
*Registrants must show a vaccine certificate or negative PCR/quantitative antigen test result during registration. (This requirement may change in the future)

Takaoka City Area: The manufacturing town

The marathon starts near Takaoka Kojo Park, which consists of the remains of Takaoka Castle, built by Lord Maeda Toshinaga.
It then passes in front of the Great Buddha of Takaoka, one of Japan's 3 Great Buddhas, before walking through Yamachosuji, an area designated as a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, before passing in front of Takaoka Sekino Shrine, made famous by the Takaoka Mikurumayama Festival.
The marathon then turns around in front of the Hokuriku Shinkansen's Shin-Takaoka Station, designed with vertical lattices reminiscent of historical buildings.

Imizu City Area: Bounties of the Land and the Sea

The Imizu area is where the world-renowned beauty of Toyama Bay and the Tateyama Mountain Range are the most prominent.
The marathon takes you from a fishing port where you can feel the vibrant atmosphere of the fishermen selling the delicious bounties from Toyama Bay, to the Shinminato Bridge, a panorama spot which can only be enjoyed on foot during this race, all while admiring the Kaiwomaru sailing ship, affectuously known as the Lady of the Seas.
You go towards Toyama City through the view of the rice paddies where you can feel bounties of the land.

Toyama City Area: FutureCity

Leave the view of the rice paddies behind as you finally arrive in FutureCity Toyama.
As you cross over the Class 1 Jinzu River on the Toyama Kita Bridge, take a look at the grandiose view of the Tateyama Mountain Range above the city buildings.
Pass in front of the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design, and the finish line is just past the Toyama Prefecture Fugan Canal Kansui Park.
